As a campground owner, I know firsthand how hard it is to run a campground. After many conversations with other campground owners across the country, I keep hearing the same frustrations – campers who ignore your rules, leaves sites dirty or damaged, skip payments or cause repeated disturbances, often the same people year after year and often repeating the same bad behaviour at the next campground. That stress falls on you, your staff, and the other guests, and it’s simply not fair nor is it necessary.
I’m building Camper-Rating.com because I believe we can do better. This platform will let campground owners share honest, structured feedback about campers’ behaviour and let campers rate their experiences with campgrounds in the same way. The goal is simple and human: to encourage accountability, reward respectful behaviour, and reduce the constant worry that comes with running a campground.
We’ll use a 1-5 star system and shared review categories so ratings are clear and comparable. As the database grows, campgrounds will be able to set reasonable minimum rating standards for reservations to help protect their property and camping community. Campers who consistently show respect for rules and other guests will earn tangible benefits – the specific rewards will be set by each individual campground (for example, discounts, priority site selection, reduced deposits, extended check-out times, or complimentary items etc...) Rewards won’t just be local: we’re building partnerships and a national program so good behaviour is recognized across campgrounds from province to province (and hopefully one day, from country to country!).
We know that sometimes negative situations are unavoidable. In the event, there will be a fair evidence-based process for documenting serious incidents and a clear appeal path for both parties so disputes can be examined and resolved with transparency and care.
To make it easy for campers to create profiles (since we can’t review someone who doesn’t have one nor can we review someone without their consent), access to the site will always be free for campers.
To support the platform and keep core features reliable and secure, we are offering a free, invite‑only pilot program in Manitoba so we can work side-by-side with owners to get this right, test moderation and dispute processes, and gather real data on how the system works before we launch nation-wide. After the pilot, we will offer a Basic subscription for campgrounds at $15 per month (or $150 per year) which includes listing and review access, standard screening tools, and basic support, and a Pro subscription at $39 per month (or $390 per year) which adds advanced guest‑filtering, analytics, priority placement, and enhanced dispute/damage workflows; we will communicate timing and migration details well in advance and provide special grandfathered pricing for pilot participants.
This project comes from a place of respect for the people who own and run campgrounds and for the camping community in hopes of reshaping camping culture to a more mutually respectful community for owners and campers alike. If you’re tired of dealing with the same problems and want to help shape a solution that supports owners and rewards good campers, please get in touch. Sign up below to be notified of our progress and launch date - I’d also love to hear your personal experiences from running your campground and to know which behaviours you see most commonly abused that you think should be included in the review categories. Your real-world examples will help ensure the review framework covers everything we all deal with on a daily basis.
Thank you for everything you do to keep your campgrounds welcoming and safe.
I’d be honoured to build this with you.
